Let's talk about the future of avatar sites. When you look around, none seem to be doing very well. Part of the problem might be that they still rely on desktop computers, where nowadays everyone uses phones and might not even own a computer. Also owners losing interest (I might have abandoned you for a bit but mind you the site was never busy in the first place :P). Apparently people like many updates. And maybe young people aren't as interested in avatar sites as they used to be, or we are failing to reach them. Your thoughts?

Mmm, good idea... Oh have they? I guess not, I haven't really looked recently though. :( I think that is a big reason--if you made this site as an app I think this would do much better.
As far as updates go, I think events are key in this; but a new idea: We could submit items in batches, like all of the items submitted during the month (for example) all become available to the public on x day of every month.
Not exactly sure on the last one (for one of two reasons, either: I'm not the "young people" you are referring to or I'm not like most people my age :/ ), however I believe they are they are into things like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media...

Dress up sites are still pretty popular but I have to agree with the app idea. Most kids get phones before computers or laptops and that means they're more likely to search the app store than google for something to do.
Dress up apps are super popular but usually pretty shallow or real heavy on microtransactions so technically if we wanted to look into it we'd have a leg up on the competition. In the meantime I think it would work in our favor to get the site how we want it first, then if we decide to look into expansion we'd have everything ready to "transfer over" in a sense

As for the site as is, having a wider range of time investing activities, a less cluttered social space, and steady updates would make a huge difference. Steady updates make no sense rn while no one is here but I did a bunch of research on this topic last year which is why I've made a bunch of posts on things I thought we should do already lol

Okay, so the youth nowadays are more into social media platforms where you use your real name and use your real photos. Of course that's also what all their friends use so I can understand. Maybe our generation was just more careful on the internet. It might not be so bad to target younger users and be their first, safe, social media platform.

Oh, btw, same question but now for pet sites or combined avatar/pet sites. How are they doing nowadays? Might it be worth it for us to move into that direction?

Yeah, micro transactions are popular in use but not in favor. It's true that nowadays kids tend to get phones before computers. Activities would be good to keep users online.

Yeah, I was definitely taught to be extra careful on the internet, and I plan to be strict with my baby too.
I think pet games do well. I would love to work with pets.~<3

BTW, I was planning on teaching myself Java and how to make apps, and I would love to help in that regard; I think this would be a great project for me to learn on. <3 With that being said, I think that starting to make the app sooner than later would be better, so that things are done one-at-a-time rather than all-at-once.

Pet features are always really popular, especially because some kids can't have pets. It's a fun way to play with pets without the commitment.

Question is would we go more neopets style, a few pets with care systems, or collection style, many pets with less "responsibility" but more variety.

I think they both have their merits but personally I prefer collection style pets. I like how pretty they can get and collections mean we can have seasonal fancy pets which I vibe.

I also question if this would be a separate feature from avatar pets? Or would this just tie into that by having collectable pets with their own art but a small version you could equip to your avatar. I'm a fan of the latter because let's with their own space means more artistic detail/freedom. It wouldn't be too hard to make minime templates to mimic the full size adoptables

I see what you mean. First I thought I'd make simple scripts for adoptable/clickable pets to help people with their mini shop for when we have currency.

Making them an official site feature would bring me back to the old pet project where you could equip them on your avatar and be in the game world. But this is another kind of system, they could coexist.

I think having both would be fantastic because I have a TON of old adoptables that could work really well here as shop adoptables

Sooo.. My exam didn't work out because they couldn't see my video stream, but I can't reschedule until after new years anyway so I'll try to be on more.

I'm sure it makes more sense to make some of them like that, we are in an instant gratification world these days. XP

So Covid... there were some (Dutch) numbers that 13.000 extra people died last year because of it, and it might have been much higher if they hadn't taken any measures. Probably elderly, poor grandmas and grandpas. Here's an article about who's most vulnerable: https://www.nat...586-020-02483-2

Oh yeah, they also said we haven't seen these kinds of excess mortality numbers since WWII
