Some years ago I was on a site that had 2 big features: wiki's and polls. It led to billions of random polls and hundreds of random art contests nobody would enter...
I'm not saying we will never have them, but I think they would be a lot of work and like Az said, we don't really need them.

Trying to figure out how a simple kind of PM-ing could work on here. Maybe it could be based on censoring. If only the owner of a profile and the person who wrote it could see a post, that would work, right?
Then you could have an extra checkbox saying "Private" and the speech bubble could end up dashed and/or a different color.

About the deleting messages off your own page, it can be a very annoying thing if your comments get deleted. So maybe people should leave spam removal to mods and be able to turn comments on their page into private messages instead.

I don't want to work on it and I have no clue what's wrong, but I'm afraid new people might be scared off by it since it's the front page.
Damn Internet Explorer, it does a funny thing now, too, when you paste into the talk box, it just scrolls to the top for no reason.

That scrolling thing always happens, it's a real pain, but I think it you restart your browser it goes away.
The only thing I could suggest for that overlapping thing is take everything off the page and add one thing at a time, going over the codes. It's time consuming, sometimes that's just the best thing to do.

Anyone have any Halloween item requests by any chance?
So there'd be tabs, and if you clicked a tab, it would go to the artist's tab (without taking you to a new page- that kinda defeats the purpose.) You could view all the items by that specific artist.
You could also change if you wanted to view tabs by artist, or by group, like view all shoes, all shirts, ETC. (Tops & dresses would be in the same category)
And so, I guess if you wanted to, when you hovered over an item, the following would appear. (it's in blue, on the pic, btw)
Item name, and artist.
And when you click on an item, it would give you the first pose. But somewhere on the page would have a dropdown box with the other options to change the color, style, etc.
Then you could have a box to the left or right of your av, and it would show all the items you're currently wearing. You could also have an option under the item you're wearing to remove it, like a red 'x' or something.
Then there's a 'take all items off' and 'undo last change to avvy' button.
I just realized I only drew the stick figure with one arm. Oh, absent-mindness.
I dunno, I want a dressup page with one page.
Some people (me) have really bad memory. Plus you mentioned there are users that are 7-8ish, right? I think it would be easier to navigate for them

Wow.. you really put a lot of effort into this idea. But I really get the feel of the Gaia avatar clothing/changing booth/whatever it's called.
Thank you for your idea; I was planning on delving into the idea of a "Clothing Catalog" with Karin once she's back.
Anyway, for the time being on your profile, you can make your own list of favorite artists using the [user][/user] tags. put them around a user's name, like this:

Add a 'hide image' in the changing booth? There was an artist with a orange and black pumpkin background, and it really bugged me, because I couldn't see what I was selecting. TT _ TT;

It is a little annoying, which is why I had suggested it in the first place, but I'll probably have to do some convincing on Karin's side first. Plus there is always something important that she's working on; it's all about priority!
Hehe, that's probably my change booth. When I design my profile I never think about the possible difficulty people could have seeing in there. But you can always save the item, go to a lighter page then come back if you don't like it. Next time though I'll try a lighter image or maybe I can see about disabling that image in the booth or adding a lighter bg there only.

I messed around with it, but I don't think we have "permission" to change things in just the changing booth itself. All changes we can make are applied to both the comments and the changing booth.
Again, I'll talk to Karin once she's back about maybe adding a light background for all changing booths.

This site already sort of is a mobile site, with its low resolution and all. Works on PSP and DS at least. What kind of phone do you have? Can you access other avatar sites on it?
Online status indicator is a good idea. Maybe the username could be a white or something when someone is online.
Nice dress-up page design. Some of the features you mentioned are already there, just in a different place. Taking one item off can be done in the main dress-up. "Strip" is "Take off everything", "Reset" is "Undo", profile comment/PM alert is in the top right. Information about (artist of) items you're wearing is on your profile. There even is one large booth for event items you collected in some of the events, the lost and found. Wouldn't hurt to see if they could be arranged more logically.
Rose Mouse and I discussed the item catalog idea. There probably is going to be one.

I haven't been on this site for a while, so I'm not sure if it has been suggested.
But... I want a wardrobe or whatever that I can save an outfit, so I can change into that immediately whenever I want to (like the one on Gaia).
I don't mind going through profiles to equip items on my avatar, but having to do that every time after an event really bothers me. Plus, having that could really encourage me (and maybe a lot of other people) to play with different items, as if I don't like what I have, I can always go back and re-equip what I had. =3
And there's no need to have two outfits saved, just one is good enough, I think.
And can we have a praying pose? 8D Pretty useful (especially with the eyes I have) if someone wants to express his plea or wish. xD

Karin and I discussed, at length, an item catalog. It's a very big project so it'll be a while before it's finished.
For now, I'd suggest linking the users on your profile when you find an item you want to use over and over.
When you've got an outfit you like, visit the Dress-up page, highlight the artists' avatars who contributed and right-click + copy. Paste in your profile and add the [ user ][ / user ] tags. Fast and easy!

I randomly thought of shortcuts for Chat Box effect-emotes.
Exmaple: If you typed "/? [your message]" into the box, then you avatar would be using the ? emote.
I would think it would only apply to the chat avatar and not the "Live" one at the top.

I think for registration and login, the input fields should be changed to Username and Password. These terms are universal whereas Name and Keyword are not and can easily be misunderstood.

There are currently 17981 posts saved in the chat box. I'm certain this is the cause of the sites progressively slower loading.
I think you need to put a limit on how many pages it saves. Like 100 pages?

Maybe the server was having problems.
