@Sarah (MinecraftFan): Please make your image 100 x 100 px (or canvas) and a transparent background so the mods can clearly see it. The hair would be nice if you made your outlines as dark as ever. the shoes have a missing strap and it doesn't look like they're really shoes or slippers. the gloves need darker shading and the line art needs to be even within the wrist. Not sure if the bathing suit is acceptable though but darker shading is really needed. (To mods I'm sorry if my explanation is too long. qq)
oh and no matter how big i make it it will be like that.
April 18, 2013 12:54 (11 years ago)
Please note that the shading should be somewhere at the bottom left since the top right is where the ava's light come from. And the line art in front or the bangs still isn't the same darkness as the line art outside the hair. The hair needs right shading and a little shine on the top left. Don't crop it when you've pasted the ava on your paint program, also, you should use transparecy (background) so the mods will see that you have a higher chance to make you an artist, it's also said so on the instructions. Use [url=http://iaza.com/]this site[url] to convert your sample to transparent. Also i suggest taking a look at the Transparecy tutorial at the pixel art wiki. I just noticed that there are earings since they're too small, try adding some dark outlines on it. Maybe fixing that curve on the right side would make it not look that unusual. And the strap on the right slipper looks a little uneven. Ty.
UGH!!! SO MUCH DESCRIPTION--SO MUCH PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay! That Is My Light Purple Makeup! (Light As In Not Heavy Not The Color Shade C; )
July 1, 2013 19:46 (11 years ago)
That looks nice but, you should focus on clothing more so than makeup or masks. That will make it easier for the mods to see if you are ready to become an artist or not.

Look At The Hair:
It Was From A Previous Doll, But Alreno Helped Me With It ;) And, The Shoes Are Good :P And If You Guys Will Possibly Accept The Gloves And The Swimsuit, That Would Be Awesome :)

That looks really good! Ale, you work wondersss. But, try working on your own pixeling style. It looks too much like some of Ale's work. Great work! Keep it coming!
July 6, 2013 17:14 (11 years ago)
im probably never going to pass and become an artist x3

I Need To Stop Saving It Up-close When I Do It On The Computer :P
July 11, 2013 1:04 (11 years ago)
remember my steps sarah X3
1: outline -make sure its neat and clean
2: Base colouring -i generally use the lightest colour unless i intend on using highlights (which usually i do for hair)
3: Basic Shadows -just remember which way the lighting is coming from and put shadows around it, i also recommend anti-aliasing but you dont have to.
4: defining of strands/folds in your hair/tops -(You dont have to do this step but i find it adds more effect X3) adding strands of hair is simple, just add a few pixels to indicate it as you can see with the hair.
5: Extra shadows -i recommend this step to further define the lighting i also use it to anti-alias the lighter shadows and put a few more lines around to define the clumps of hair. I will also darken the outlines if needed.
6: Finishing touches -with hair i will normally put highlights in here, with tops however i dont, but tops can be trickier sometimes because they cant be so plain, so i will generally put a pattern/image on it in this case i put a purple flower on the underwears XD and i actually did put highlights on it too, which sometimes can add to it. so here is the finished image: i put it as a gif so you can see each and every step take place.
July 11, 2013 7:03 (11 years ago)
Also remember that those steps are just how i pixel, it would be best if you found your own style, but the simple stuff will just help you to find it :3. also, i might recommend something other than hair, its actually quite hard to get the hang of.
July 11, 2013 9:50 (11 years ago)
Actually I don't recommend using anti-aliasing. With pixel are the point is to work with a limited color palette. So I'd rather you'd increase the number of colors in your palette conciously than use anti-aliasing to smear everything adding a new color value for every pixel you've smeared.
July 12, 2013 5:43 (11 years ago)
yeah thats a good point, i only use a little bit anyway so i dont smudge it to bits like my sister does XD
July 12, 2013 9:12 (11 years ago)
Really? I always thought she was a pixel art purist using dithering all the time, as seen in this tutorial of hers.
Of course there are also people who "decrease the number of colors" using their graphics program after they're done smearing everything. But that's cheating in my opinion XP
July 13, 2013 10:53 (11 years ago)
I think she used to dither sometimes, but now every time i see her pixel shes always anti-aliasing. Its done quite purely though, because she does it using the existing colours she already has. She just uses every shade she has to add some more anti aliasing XD

don't forget MC that this is where you go to be accepted as an artist, not to have individual items accepted. Also all work needs to be your own ;P

This is my incredibly boring submission. It was mostly just practice for human art since I haven't ever really done it before, so I hope it's ok enough.
Any comments or critiques are greatly appreciated.
Not bad, i find if you put quite a bit of contrast between colors it makes it stand out more and not seem..blurred. I would also suggest looking at the shape of the dress more, look at real life dresses and such as guides, they helped me a lot. :3 (oh and by the way the reason the first link didnt come up with the image is because you forgot the / in the last img tag. So it should have looked like this: [/img] at the end.) ^ ^;

Woooooooow :O that is..really big XD. Yay im used as a color reference<3 XDD. i think the shading needs to be darker in general on the black needs to be a bit darker, and the hair needs a little more definition. Also the red belt and the red part of the scroll i think need to have a darker outline. But otherwise that is pretty cool for a first user submission :D.
September 14, 2013 0:04 (11 years ago)
(oh and next time i suggest posting the items in not so big a picture ^^' it stretches the page.
September 23, 2013 21:07 (11 years ago)
I love you submission, its obvious how much effort you've put into this and its very good! Especially for your first submission.
I love the exspression.
The outline of the hair is little stiff, and if you look at other hairs, you'll notice they use the shade to split it off and not make it look solid.
The belt needs a darker outline, or it just blends into part of a one peice top jeans thing.
Keep trying, practice makes perfect. n.n

Question
Can i Shade it Any way or how the site/Moderators Shade it?
October 29, 2013 9:31 (11 years ago)
You are free to add extra layers of shading. The things written up there are minimum requirements. As long as the outline of items are sufficiently dark so they don't clash with the other items it should be fine.
