@Puku I think what Karin means is that you do the shading and the pixel and not just blurring the image to make it look like you shaded. Also when you zoom in there are some areas that dont have the outline (If that makes any sense?). Try making another hair with a palette of colors and actully shade it yourself and clean up the outside. Sorry if this isnt what karin met >w>
October 2, 2012 17:07 (12 years ago)
We like it best if our artists use 1 color for the outline and that outline should be dark. In the case of your blonde hair the outline is too light.
If you were to use the paint bucket tool and color a layer below the doll, you would see little pixels here and there. Those are called "artifacts". As Karin mentioned, this is from using the blur tool.
It's fine to use the blur tool (although it reduces the "pixeled" look, which is what we want here,) just make sure that after you erase all the artifacts.
On the puppy ears (which are adorable,) they need shading. Right now they look like flat boards on the side of the head.
I'm assuming the tail is the same.
Try using a palette, like coolcool said, made up of 4-5 shade and tints:
Highlight - The lightest
Main color - The "base"
Mid shade - Between the main and shading colors (Optional)
Shading color - It makes things look alive!
Outline - The darkest of the bunch
I usually choose the main color first then the highlight, shade, and outline.
Once you've made the changes to this hair, I'd like to see your clothing abilities.
Could you try making a pretty dress or skirt with folds? This will really show us the extent of your talent.

Aw im not very good at hair.. Dont mind the dress. I was messing around XD
October 3, 2012 12:30 (12 years ago)
Your almost there coolcool! The shading is nice. Suggestion use your finger as a guide like pointing it and making a imaginary line at the monitor. Trust me, that's what I did.

The outline is not dark enough (you need something like the outline color of my ears for white) but not bad at all!
For the hairs I get the feeling they could be drawn a little better. Hair should flow naturally to make it look like actual hair. Maybe add some strands and think how gravity would be pulling it. The shading is really good though.
October 6, 2012 0:54 (12 years ago)
Yay I made the outlines darker :D Please Comment!

WOW! Both of you (Cool and Tiffany) have awesome creations. Yet, I can't make hair...

The front of that Erza hair looks really awesome, just add a little highlight! The back doesn't look very natural though. The other one I don't like too much, needs to be hairier.
What you're doing now is the test for us to decide to make you an artist. I think I'll make you one once I see some ready-to-upload items from you.

I like the shape of the hair how it is now, but the shading is still too flat. If you add just tiny highlights you can't make them out, so make them more obvious to make it shiny. Also try to have a bit of contrast between the base color and the shading, this will also add depth to the hair.
Personally I don't like strands of hair that are just 1 pixel wide, looks like you forgot to clean up the line art XP
I'm not crazy about the balloon, the further away end should probably be narrower because of the perspective. And balloons need to be made shiny with highlights too, of course. So, balloons eh? Are you going to pixel a balloon animal next? o.O
October 7, 2012 10:10 (12 years ago)
Erza hair has no shine... it must have been dyeing its hair all day long... Add some shine on it, Cool. That's my small suggestion...
October 9, 2012 3:46 (12 years ago)
Does this look any better?
October 9, 2012 9:09 (12 years ago)
Pretty! much better! All hairs needs shine, anyway..
October 9, 2012 12:53 (12 years ago)
I suggest to put hair lines, like mine, to make it really like hair and the shine is ok.

October 10, 2012 11:19 (12 years ago)
@ Violet: I pasted your hair on the base and nice shading but the bangs are like over the forehead. It is like there is a big bald spot on the hair but not bad.
October 10, 2012 12:33 (12 years ago)
Thanks for letting me know Tiffany_may :)
THis might sound stupid, but how can I paste what I've already drawn on a new model?
October 10, 2012 17:10 (12 years ago)
Oh, you drew it in the oekaki! I guess we can see how it looks on someone there then.
And I don't know if I really understand your question, but I guess opening all images in an image ediiting program like Paint.net and combining them by putting them on different layers.
Oh, people, when you're going to submit a hair style you also have to draw the part behind the arm, since, you see, our arms can move!
@coolcool I think I could go for a brighter highlight, but it's alright. Well, since I can't get a hold of the other mods I'll go ahead and make you a site artist.
October 10, 2012 23:20 (12 years ago)
Ok, so since hair seems to be beyond me, maybe I should start smaller:

I forgot. Nice plant but it looks like its too far away fromthe avatar
October 11, 2012 19:34 (12 years ago)
I shouldn't be surprised, i still trying to figure out whats been done already >.< Sorry
October 11, 2012 19:36 (12 years ago)
How about this?
October 11, 2012 20:44 (12 years ago)
@SamSamSierra Its so cute! = w =
If i was too change it though, i would round the plant pot more, it kinda looks flat, you just need to curve the lines.
@Violet that exact eye patch has been made before! (its in the costume tent, talk to Star i think, its in Halloween bonus 2011), Its a bit small though, you need to remember there are different types of eyes that are larger.
And that hair is cute but the middle of it is just plain color.. You could try bringing the lines from the fringe up some more, or show the parting in the hair. Plus the fringe parts look a bit rigid, or sharp, the middle one goes fat too very thin quickly, you should make it longer or thinner.
Hope this helps, keep up with the good work. :)
October 11, 2012 22:02 (12 years ago)
Ok, the improvement of Plant. Comment please
October 12, 2012 12:16 (12 years ago)
I don't agree with the people who say "that and that has already been done". So what? We can have different versions of stuff. Especially if the newer one is done better than the older one.
I think the hair is fine so far, but looks unfinished at the back. Shouldn't there a ponytail or something? Or if it's supposed to be short it shouldn't it be a little spikier?
October 13, 2012 4:57 (12 years ago)
